Call a Thief a Thief: The Hypocrisy of Fancy Grammar in Our Political Tragedy

Image
By David Alani Ige, (The Scribe)    In our society today, the speed at which justice is served depends entirely on the size of the criminal's bank account. We have created two distinct universes of morality: one for the poor, and one for the political elite. And the bridge between these two universes is built entirely on the hypocrisy of fancy grammar. Let us be brutally honest. If a hungry man steals a tuber of yam in Bodija Market, or snatches a mobile phone out of desperation, the society instantly labels him a 'thief'. He is stripped naked, beaten blue-black by a mob, and if he survives, he is thrown into a congested prison cell to rot for years. We do not look for polite words to describe his crime.  But when a man in an agbada or a customized suit sits in an air-conditioned office and steals five billion naira meant for primary healthcare, rural roads, or security, we suddenly lose our ability to speak plain English.  The Dictionary of Deceit When the pol...

The Dust of Emperors: Why the Powerful Must Tread with Care

Image
By David Alani Ige, (The Scribe) Stop for a moment and ask yourself a terrifying, yet necessary question: What if I die today? Yes, you are rich. Yes, you are powerful. Yes, you have acquired everything your heart so deeply desired—the mansions, the fleet of cars, the political influence, the applause of men. You walk into rooms and people stand up. You issue commands and they are executed. But look at your hands. Do you truly believe that all this power can bribe the angel of death? History is a graveyard of men who thought they were gods. The greatest tragedy of the human condition is our delusion of permanence. We build empires on earth as if we hold a permanent deed to life, forgetting that our existence here is merely a short-term lease, and the landlord can evict us without notice.  The Empty Hands of the Conqueror Consider Alexander the Great, a man who conquered the known world before he turned thirty-three. He had amassed wealth that defied mathematical calculation a...

BREAKING: Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom as Presidency Confirms Rescue

Image
By David Alani Ige, (The Scribe) Publisher, Ayekooto Media July 10, 2026                    IBADAN — In a major sigh of relief for the Pacesetter State, the pupils and teachers abducted from the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have officially regained their freedom.  The confirmation of their release was announced on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Onanuga confirmed that the victims—who were violently taken from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in mid-May—have been successfully rescued.  A Tech-Driven Rescue Operation The successful rescue marks the climax of weeks of intense pressure and complex negotiations. According to the Presidency, the operation was executed under the direct orders of President Tinubu, who ma...

The Grassroots in Chains: The Tragic Paralysis of Local Government Administration in Oyo State

Image
By David Alani Ige,(The Scribe)  Publisher, Ayekooto Media                       In Oyo State today, a quiet but devastating tragedy is unfolding. It is not happening in the polished corridors of the State Secretariat in Agodi, nor is it visible in the multi-billion naira infrastructure projects dotting the capital city. This tragedy lives in the pothole-riddled streets of our inner towns, the crumbling primary healthcare centers, and the terrifying security breaches in rural communities like Oriire.  The tragedy is the total, calculated paralysis of Local Government Administration in the Pacesetter State.  For years, the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Oyo State have been reduced to mere administrative appendages of the state government. They are local governments in name only—stripped of financial independence, devoid of political willpower, and fundamentally ...

The Ayekooto Mandate: Why the World Hates the Truth (And Why We Must Tell It Anyway)

Image
There is an ancient, unspoken agreement among men: we claim to seek the truth, yet we spend our entire lives running away from it. Truth is a mirror that shows us our deepest flaws, our societal decay, and our collective hypocrisy. It is abrasive. It is uncomfortable. And as the old saying goes, the whole world might abhor the truth, but it must be told.  In the rich tapestry of Yoruba cosmology, there is a reason the parrot is called 'Ayekooto'—a profound name that literally translates to "The world rejects the truth."Yet, despite knowing the world's hatred for reality, the parrot remains the ultimate symbol of unvarnished honesty.  The Burden of the Parrot Why the parrot? Unlike the eagle that hunts in silence or the peacock that distracts with its vanity, the parrot does exactly one thing: it repeats exactly what it hears and sees. The parrot does not filter its words for political correctness. It d...

Justice Delayed but Not Denied: The Ordeal and Vindication of Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon

Image
By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) Public Affairs Commentator & Policy Analyst | Publisher, Ayekooto Media The Appointment and the Obstruction In June 2013, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon strictly on merit as Nigeria’s new Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other Trade-Related International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland. Prior to this, Amb. Adejuwon served as the Director of Trade in the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. Despite the President’s directive for an immediate resumption of duty, Amb. Adejuwon faced unprecedented insubordination and sabotage. His predecessor, Amb. Yonov F. Agah, bluntly refused to vacate the office for eight months. When Amb. Agah finally left, he defied the Ministry’s explicit instructions (Ref No. TS 2054/II/79A) to hand over to Amb. Adejuwon. Instead, he unlawfully handed over the Nigeria Trade Office to a subordinate, Mr. Suleiman Adebayo Audu—a Grade Level 14...

LAMENTATION FOR IGBOHO: WHERE THE WISDOM OF OUR ANCESTORS HAS BEEN BURIED BY THE PRIDE OF THE LITERATE

Image
By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) There is a tragic irony walking the streets of Igboho today, one that breaks the heart of anyone who truly loves this ancient soil. We have more degrees today than ever before. We have professors, lawyers, politicians, and glamorous elites. Yet, in terms of true wisdom, visionary progress, and communal love, the modern "educated" class of Igboho cannot hold a candle to our uneducated ancestors.  Let us speak the bitter truth without fear or favor: The olden days of Igboho were vastly better than the modern reality of Igboho. The Monumental Legacy of the Unlettered Look back at the foundation of our land. The brave, uneducated founders who carved out Igboho did not hold university degrees, but they possessed a profound, God-given intellect that modern schooling cannot buy. They built Igboho to their taste—a taste rooted in unity, vision, and progress.  Every major pathway and road that connects our town today was envisioned and channeled b...

THE THEATRE OF MASKS: WHY HYPOCRISY FLOURISHES AND TRUTH REMAINS AN EXILE

Image
By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) In the grand marketplace of human interaction, there is a currency that is spent freely, printed daily, and accepted without question: Hypocrisy. Yet, on the same streets, another currency—Truth—is treated like contraband, hidden away, and traded only by a courageous few. We live in a society where people engage in hypocrisy at will, orchestrating elaborate deceptions, while the truth has become the scarcest commodity in town.  But why is hypocrisy so common, and why has truth become an endangered species?  The Anatomy of the Mask: Why Men Play the Hypocrite If we observe human nature closely, we see that hypocrisy is rarely an accident; it is a calculated performance. Some engage in it deliberately to project an aura of perfection they do not possess. Others use it as a shield to cover up the moral failings of their associates, trading integrity for patronage. But the most common driver of hypocrisy is the pursuit of personal gain. In po...

THE MYTH OF THE DEFAULT CROWN: DISMANTLING THE ENTRENCHED POWER MONOPOLIES OF OYO STATE

Image
By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) In the complex arithmetic of Oyo State politics, a dangerous and unwritten rule has been allowed to masquerade as a democratic tradition: the assumption that the executive destiny of the state belongs exclusively to a single geopolitical bloc. As the drumbeats for the 2027 gubernatorial elections grow louder, we are already witnessing the resurgence of this political entitlement. Prominent figures from the traditional power centers, particularly the Ibadan axis, are once again positioning themselves, echoing variations of the "Èmi ló kàn" (It is my turn) mantra. But we must submit this entitlement to strict philosophical and democratic scrutiny. We must ask a fundamental question: whose turn is it, truly, when an entire region with the largest landmass, a massive voting population, and the most critical agrarian wealth has never been allowed to wear the crown? The Illusion of the "Default Crown" For decades, the entrenched political...

ÒKÈ-ÒGÙN LÓ KÀN: THE IMPERATIVE OF COLLECTIVE EMANCIPATION AND WHY WE MUST RALLY BEHIND ẸGBẸ́ ÀJỌṢÈPỌ̀ FUN ITESIWAJU GBOGBO WA

Image
By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) For decades, the political arithmetic of Oyo State has operated on a deeply flawed and structurally unjust formula. The Òkè-Ògùn region—boasting the largest landmass, the most critical agrarian wealth, and a formidable reservoir of human capital—has consistently been relegated to the periphery of executive power. We have been the perennial kingmakers, the reliable voting bloc, and the economic backbone. Yet, when it is time to wear the crown of the ultimate political mandate, we are systematically told to wait.  The waiting period is over.  As the political landscape reshapes itself ahead of the next cycle, the rallying cry of "Òkè-Ògùn Ló Kàn" (It is Òkè-Ògùn’s turn) is no longer a mere political slogan. It is a philosophical demand for structural justice, equity, and regional emancipation. But slogans do not win elections, nor do they dismantle entrenched political hegemony. Organization does.  This is exactly why every Òkè-Ògùn in...

THE PRICE OF WRONGNESS: WHY NIGERIANS BUY INJUSTICE, NOT JUSTICE

By David Alani Ige (The Scribe) For decades, Nigerians have lazily leaned on a popular, cynical phrase to describe our judiciary: "Justice is for the highest bidder." It is a phrase echoed in market squares, newsrooms, and even the hallowed chambers of our courts. However, submitting this common saying to strict philosophical scrutiny—as recently provoked by the veteran journalist Chief Tola Adeniyi—reveals a fundamental flaw in our thinking.  Nobody actually buys justice. Justice, in its purest form, is not purchasable. What the crooked, the wealthy, and the politically connected pay for in Nigeria is injustice. The Economics of Falsehood To understand this paradigm shift, we must look at the natural state of truth. Justice is the default alignment of reality. If a man rightfully owns a piece of land and the court declares him the owner based on glaring evidence, that is justice. It happens naturally. It requires no extra financial lubrication. Justice is the free baseline...
