EYES IN THE SKY: Makinde Takes Delivery of Twin Surveillance Aircraft to Combat Insecurity in Oyo State

IBADAN — In a major move to fulfill his promise to revamp the state’s security architecture, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has officially taken delivery of two Diamond DA42 MNG Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance aircraft. 


The governor received the state-of-the-art security assets yesterday evening at the upgraded Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Alakia, Ibadan. 


While addressing the press, Governor Makinde noted that the massive landmass of Oyo State—which is larger than some countries—necessitated the shift from merely having "boots on the ground" to incorporating advanced aerial intelligence. 


"I’ve seen people criticise us and ask, ‘Where is the aircraft?’ But we planned for it so that we would be able to cover as much of the state's landmass as possible within the shortest time," the governor stated. 


He disclosed that the aircraft, which will be immediately deployed in partnership with the Nigerian Air Force, are specifically designed to monitor difficult-to-access border communities, dense forests, and emerging threats, ensuring that residents, schools, and businesses can operate without the paralyzing fear of kidnapping or banditry.
