ILORIN — It was an epoch-making display of solidarity, pride, and institutional brotherhood on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as the Irepo Grammar School Old Students Association (IGSIOSA) turned out in overwhelming numbers at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). The global alumni body stormed the Kwara State capital to honor one of its most illustrious and shining stars, Professor Mariam Adepeju AbdulRaheem-Mustapha, as she delivered the university’s 305th Inaugural Lecture.
The landmark academic event, held at the overflowing UNILORIN Main Auditorium, saw the alumni association showcase the true strength of its bond, led by its highest-ranking members from both the political and socio-economic spheres.
High-Powered Executive Leadership on the Frontline
Leading the high-powered IGSIOSA delegation was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the association, His Excellency, Barr. Chief Bayo Lawal, the Acting Governor of Oyo State. His Excellency's presence underscored the immense pride the association holds for Prof. Mariam’s historic academic feat.
Matching the BoT Chairman's leadership step-for-step was the National President of IGSIOSA, Mr. Femi Adeyanju, who coordinated executive members and alumni from various branches across the country to ensure a seamless and unforgettable turnout.
The front rows of the auditorium featured a constellation of prominent alumni leaders and respected elders, including:
Professor Layi Oladipupo:Renowned scholar and academic pillar of the association.
Chief Adelani Olowookere: Respected community chieftain and executive member.

Honoring a Trailblazing Alumna
The alumni association had every reason to celebrate. Professor Mariam Adepeju AbdulRaheem-Mustapha, a proud product of Irepo Grammar School, was making history as the First Female Professor of Public Law, the First Female Head of the Department of Public Law, and the Second Female Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ilorin.
Her lecture, titled “Children in the Cage, Justice on Trial,” delivered an incisive, compassionate, and thought-provoking analysis of Nigeria's child justice system. She advocated fiercely for the reform, rehabilitation, and reintegration of child offenders rather than punitive incarceration.
Speaking on behalf of the association, leadership representatives expressed immense gratitude to God for elevating one of their own to the zenith of the academic profession. They noted that Prof. Mariam's relentless pursuit of excellence serves as an inspiring beacon of hope for current students of Irepo Grammar School and young girls across the region.
A Celebration of Legacy and Distinction
The atmosphere outside the auditorium following the lecture was charged with nostalgic camaraderie, as old schoolmates reconnected, took historic photographs with the inaugural lecturer, and celebrated the continuing legacy of Irepo Grammar School as a breeding ground for national leaders, legal luminaries, and top-tier academics.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, along with the university management, acknowledged the grand turnout of the association, praising the alumni network for their unwavering support for academic distinction and community development.
As the old students returned to their various destinations, one message echoed clearly: the Irepo Grammar School Old Students Association remains a formidable family, forever united in celebrating the triumphs of its members.
