ILE-IFE — In a major revelation that has sent ripples through both political and academic circles, Emeritus Professor Dibu Ojerinde, OON, has officially disclosed why he recently turned down a high-profile Ambassadorial appointment.

The startling disclosure was made public on Friday inside the revered walls of the Ile-Ife palace, during an exclusive, high-level meeting with His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Arole Oduduwa.

Professor Ojerinde, a towering intellectual giant, former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the Aare Fimogboye of the Source, was at the palace alongside an entourage that included Ayekooto Media Publisher, David Alani Ige, and prominent Ife prince and scholar, Dr. Sooko Kemade Elugbaju The delegation was fresh from paying their academic respects at the laying-in-state of a respected university don at the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

The Royal Admonition and Court Victory

The meeting, which began with joyous royal blessings, quickly pivoted to matters of national significance. The Oonirisa warmly received the Elder Statesman, officially congratulating Professor Ojerinde on his recent, resounding court victory—a triumph that vindicated the highly respected academic after a period of intense legal scrutiny.

However, playing the role of a deeply concerned traditional father, the Ooni firmly admonished the Aare Fimogboye over his recent lifestyle. The monarch urged Professor Ojerinde to stop isolating himself from the public eye and the palace, emphasizing that his wealth of experience is still very much needed by the kingdom and the nation at large.

The Rejected Appointment

It was during this fatherly admonition that the Ooni of Ife revealed a closely guarded secret regarding the Elder Statesman's political standing.

The monarch disclosed that months ago, he had personally reached out to Professor Ojerinde with an offer for a prestigious Ambassadorial appointment to serve the country on the global stage. Surprisingly, the revered academic firmly but politely rejected the diplomatic posting.

Validating the monarch's revelation, Professor Ojerinde maintained his stance, explaining that after decades of relentless public service at the highest levels of the Nigerian educational sector, and having successfully navigated his recent legal battles, his primary focus has shifted. The Elder Statesman noted simply that he rejected the offer because he "needed to rest."

A Legacy Intact

This revelation puts to rest widespread speculations regarding Professor Ojerinde’s next political and administrative moves. By rejecting the diplomatic posting in favor of personal peace and rest, the Emeritus Professor has signaled a deliberate transition into the role of a quiet elder statesman and community leader.

The historic visit concluded with the presentation of a specially crafted Ayekooto Media archival frame to the Ooni of Ife by Publisher David Alani Ige, sealing a day marked by academic reverence, exclusive political revelations, and deep royal blessings.
