EXCLUSIVE: JAMB Director Mufutau Bello Set for Friday Exit Amid N500M Whistleblower Petitions and Tenure Violations

ABUJA— Following weeks of intense internal pressure and a barrage of whistleblowing petitions detailing alleged financial misconduct and civil service tenure violations, the newly inaugurated leadership of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reportedly moved to quietly ease out a highly controversial Director, Mr. Mufutau Bello.

Impeccable insider sources within the Board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, have exclusively confirmed to 'Ayekooto Media' that the new Registrar announced during a high-level management meeting that Mr. Bello will officially exit the agency this coming Friday. 

The move is widely seen as a strategic administrative cleanup by the new JAMB leadership, designed to distance the Board from an inherited liability that has recently attracted the attention of anti-graft agencies.

The Whistleblower Petitions: Age, Tenure, and The N500M Allegation
For weeks, heavily circulated whistleblowing flyers and internal petitions—actively copying the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Federal Ministry of Education—have called for Bello’s immediate probe and prosecution.

The petitions outline a litany of alleged infractions against the Nigerian Public Service Rules (PSR). According to the leaked documents, Mr. Bello, who was reportedly seconded to JAMB from the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna in 2016, has illegally overstayed the statutory six-year secondment limit stipulated in 'PSR 020503(g)'. 

More damning, however, is the allegation that Mr. Bello attained the mandatory civil service retirement age of 60 in May 2022, yet continued to occupy his directorial seat under the protection of the previous administration. 

Beyond administrative violations, the whistleblowers have raised massive financial red flags. The petitions allege that between 2018 and 2019, over N500 Million of JAMB’s public funds were illicitly routed into the personal accounts of Mr. Bello and another official, with a specific claim that N300 million was wired directly to him in 2018 alone. 

While 'Ayekooto Media' cannot independently verify the financial transfers at this time, the sheer volume of the petitions has reportedly forced the new management’s hand to quietly push him out this Friday before a public scandal engulfs the new administration.

The Ghost of the House of Reps Walkout
For political observers, Mr. Bello’s impending exit marks the end of an era for an official whose brazen approach to public accountability previously subjected JAMB to national embarrassment. 

In late October 2025, Mr. Bello made national headlines when he represented the former JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, before the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education. Tasked with presenting the Board’s financial documents and defending its budget performance, Bello shocked lawmakers by refusing to introduce himself and vehemently demanding that all accredited journalists be thrown out of the hearing room. 

He controversially argued that the financial documents he was about to present contained "sensitive and confidential information" that the press should not see. When the Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji, and other lawmakers rejected his demand—insisting that parliamentary oversight proceedings are constitutional and strictly public—Bello became visibly agitated, accused the lawmakers of trying to embarrass the Board, ordered his team to pack their files, and arrogantly walked out of the session.

The unprecedented disrespect left the parliamentarians stunned, with lawmakers threatening to invoke the powers of arrest via the Sergeant-at-Arms. 

The fallout was so severe that a few weeks later, in November 2025, the former Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had to appear before the committee in person. Oloyede publicly dissociated the Board from Bello’s actions and tendered an unreserved apology to the National Assembly, stating that he would never condone such unruly conduct or anything that undermines legislative authority. 

A New Era at JAMB?
With his official exit reportedly scheduled for this Friday, it remains unclear if the EFCC or ICPC will intercept him to answer for the financial allegations detailed in the whistleblower petitions. 

What is certain, however, is that the new JAMB leadership is sending a clear message: the era of shielding controversial officials from public scrutiny and civil service rules has come to an abrupt end.
