EXCLUSIVE: JAMB Director Mufutau Bello Reportedly Set for Friday Exit Amid Whistleblower Petitions

ABUJA — A senior official of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. Mufutau A. Bello, was reportedly scheduled to leave the agency on Friday, August 14, 2026, amid petitions containing allegations of financial and administrative infractions.

Sources familiar with developments within the Board told Ayekooto Media that the reported exit followed the inauguration of a new leadership at JAMB and discussions concerning the status of some existing officials.

Ayekooto Media could not independently verify the reported administrative decision or establish whether Mr. Bello's departure was connected to the allegations contained in the petitions.

The development has nevertheless attracted attention because of a series of documents and whistleblower complaints reportedly circulated to government agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Federal Ministry of Education.

What the Petitions Allege

Documents reviewed by Ayekooto Media contain allegations concerning Mr. Bello's length of service at JAMB, his previous secondment to the Board, and his continued occupation of a senior position after reaching the retirement age alleged by the petitioners.

The petitioners reportedly contend that Mr. Bello was seconded to JAMB from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in 2016 and subsequently remained at the Board beyond the period they believe applicable under the Public Service Rules.

The documents also allege that he attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 in May 2022 but continued in service.

These claims have not been independently established by Ayekooto Media, and the applicable employment, secondment and retirement records have not been publicly made available to this publication.

Allegations Concerning N500 Million

The petitions also contain serious financial allegations.

According to the documents reviewed by Ayekooto Media, the petitioners allege that more than N500 million in JAMB funds was improperly transferred to personal accounts associated with Mr. Bello and another official between 2018 and 2019.

One of the allegations specifically claims that approximately N300 million was transferred to an account linked to Mr. Bello in 2018.

Ayekooto Media has not independently verified the alleged transactions and is not presenting the allegations as established facts.

The financial claims would require examination of bank records, payment vouchers, procurement documentation and other relevant financial records by the appropriate authorities.

No finding by the EFCC, ICPC or another competent authority establishing these allegations against Mr. Bello was identified in the sources reviewed for this report.

The 2025 House of Representatives Incident

Mr. Bello's name had previously attracted national attention following a confrontation between JAMB officials and the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies in October 2025.

On October 29, 2025, Bello represented then-JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, at a committee hearing examining JAMB's financial records, budget implementation and related matters.

Reports by TheCable, Channels Television and Premium Times independently confirmed that Bello objected to journalists remaining in the hearing room, arguing that the documents being presented contained sensitive financial information. The lawmakers rejected the request and maintained that the proceedings would remain open.

The disagreement escalated and the JAMB delegation subsequently left the hearing.

The committee chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji, directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to take action against the officials, although the delegation had already left the premises. The committee subsequently directed Oloyede to appear personally and provide the documents requested by lawmakers.

JAMB Registrar Later Apologised

The incident was followed by a subsequent appearance by Prof. Ishaq Oloyede before the committee.

In November 2025, Oloyede apologised to the lawmakers over the earlier incident and distanced himself from the conduct of the officials who had walked out of the hearing.

He said he had great respect for Parliament and would not knowingly permit conduct that undermined its authority.

JAMB also submitted documents requested by the committee, including financial and budget-related records. These developments were reported independently by TheCable, The Guardian and Premium Times.

What Happens Next?

The reported departure of Mr. Bello from JAMB comes against the background of the whistleblower petitions and the wider scrutiny of the agency's financial and administrative affairs.

However, the reported Friday exit should not by itself be interpreted as proof that any allegation against the official has been established.

Whether the petitions will result in a formal investigation, disciplinary proceedings or other action remains a matter for the relevant authorities.
