OSUN 2026: Governor Adeleke Demands International Visa Bans as Election Tensions Threaten the Grassroots

By Ayekooto Media News Desk

OSOGBO— As the critical August 2026 governorship election fast approaches, the political temperature in Osun State has reached a boiling point, prompting emergency interventions to prevent the state from sliding into electoral violence.

In a bold and unprecedented move, Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally called upon the international community—including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union—to impose severe economic sanctions and immediate visa bans against top opposition figures whom he accuses of deliberately sponsoring political violence across the state.

The Threat to the Grassroots

For the ordinary citizens of Osun State, from the markets of Osogbo to the ancient streets of Ile-Ife, the rising political hostilities pose a direct threat to daily survival. Governor Adeleke stated that the call for international sanctions is a necessary step to deter desperate politicians who are allegedly stockpiling arms and mobilizing thugs to intimidate voters at the grassroots level.

The Peace Intervention in Osogbo

Recognizing the fragile situation, major stakeholders have swiftly intervened. Today, the Osun Development Association (ODA), in strict collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, is convening a high-level Election Integrity Summit in Osogbo.

The primary goal of this summit is to force all political actors to sign a binding peace accord and to reassure the Osun electorate that their votes will count in a secure atmosphere.

Ayekooto Media’s Stance:

The blood of any Osun citizen is not worth the political ambition of any candidate. We urge the security agencies to remain strictly non-partisan and to immediately arrest anyone—regardless of their political affiliation—caught disrupting the peace of the state. Osun must decide its future through the ballot, not the bullet.
