HyCuTIPI COMMENTS ON REPORTED POLICE OPERATION AT FUOYE VICE-CHANCELLOR’S RESIDENCE
Calls for Official Clarification of the September 30 Incident
The Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative (HyCuTIPI) has noted the reports concerning a police operation at the official residence of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, recently appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Professor Ogunwole, a respected academic and administrator and a Trustee of HyCuTIPI, is entitled to fair and respectful treatment while the circumstances surrounding the reported police operation are clarified.
What Has Been Reported
Media reports indicate that some armed police officers from Lagos Command arrived at the Vice-Chancellor’s residence at approximately 6:10 a.m., following which staff and students of the University reportedly gathered at the location.
Professor Ogunwole has stated that the officers informed him that they had a warrant and that the matter related to a petition involving individuals associated with the University, including his predecessor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, and Dr. Kehinde Adetola, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law.
Reports have identified the officers as being from the Lagos State Police Command and stated that they intended to take the Vice-Chancellor from Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State to Lagos.
These details have not, to our knowledge, been formally explained or confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force and should therefore be regarded as reported accounts pending official clarification.
HyCuTIPI’s Position
HyCuTIPI fully recognises the responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force to receive and investigate petitions and allegations in accordance with the law.
At the same time, a petition is not proof of wrongdoing. Any investigation should be conducted cautiously, objectively and transparently, with relevant parties given an appropriate opportunity to respond.
Professor Ogunwole, from the report has indicated his willingness to cooperate with any legitimate investigation. HyCuTIPI therefore believes that the circumstances of the reported police operation should be clarified by the appropriate authorities rather than left to speculation.
Call for Official Clarification
HyCuTIPI respectfully calls on the Inspector-General of Police to provide an official account of the reported police operation to the public, including:
* the police formation responsible;
* the authority under which the
reported action was
undertaken;
* whether a warrant of arrest was
issued, by who and its scope;
* the nature and status of the
petition reportedly connected
with the matter; and
* the reason(s) for the
involvement of officers from
outside Ekiti State, if confirmed.
An authoritative explanation would help distinguish established facts from competing accounts, reduce unnecessary speculation and douse tension
Protecting the University’s Reputation and Stability
Federal University, Oye-Ekiti is an important national institution whose reputation must be preserved and academic activities should not be unnecessarily disrupted by an unresolved administrative or investigative matter.
HyCuTIPI urges all parties involved to exercise caution and restraint by allowing the appropriate Federal Government authorities to establish the facts.
The media and public are likewise encouraged to distinguish between confirmed information, statements attributed to individuals and allegations yet to be established.
Conclusion
HyCuTIPI remains confident that any legitimate concerns arising from the reported petition can be addressed through appropriate channels and that the circumstances of the reported police operation will be clarified transparently.
Professor Ogunwole should be afforded the same legal protections and standards of fair treatment applicable to every Nigerian while the matter is being addressed.
HyCuTIPI remains committed to institutional integrity, responsible leadership, academic freedom and respect for the rule of law.
