“Ki Lo De Ti Olooto O Ki Ni Eni?” The Relentless Persecution of Oriyomi Hamzat and His Fight for the Masses

Alh. Oriyomi Hamzat

“Ki lo de ti olooto o ki ni eni?” — Why is it that the truthful one often walks alone, devoid of friends in the corridors of power?

Throughout human history, whenever a man rises with a genuine, burning desire to liberate the poor and shatter the chains of oppression, the ruling elite immediately recognize him as a threat. They do not fight him because he is evil; they fight him because his light exposes their darkness. This timeless tragedy perfectly encapsulates the current, relentless persecution of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat as he steps into the governorship race in Oyo State.

Oriyomi Hamzat is not the only governorship candidate in Oyo State. The political landscape is flooded with contenders. Yet, the arrows of malice, state-sponsored harassment, and coordinated slander are being shot at him from every conceivable direction. Why? Because unlike the traditional politicians who view the masses as mere voting statistics, Oriyomi Hamzat sees them as human beings who deserve dignity. His single-minded intention is to stand in the gap for the poor—and for this "crime," he is being crucified.

A Legacy Forged in the Crucible of the Masses

Long before the allure of political office, Oriyomi Hamzat was already doing the work of a governor for the downtrodden. Fighting for the poor is not a political strategy for him; it is his lifeblood. When he was a "nobody" with limited resources, he used his voice as a shield for the defenseless.

Through the establishment of Agidigbo FM, he did not just create a radio station; he birthed a sanctuary for the oppressed. When the justice system failed the common man, they ran to Agidigbo. When landlords oppressed tenants, when employers cheated laborers, and when the high and mighty trampled upon the weak, Oriyomi Hamzat was the ultimate equalizer.

He has paid a bitter price for this calling. How many times has he been tongue-lashed by those in power? How many times has he been dragged, humiliated, and thrown into detention cells simply for speaking truth to power? He has suffered immense pain for the masses, absorbing the blows meant for the weak. He is a man who wipes the tears of orphans, shelters the homeless, and feeds the less privileged—not for the cameras, but out of a deep-seated conviction that humanity is one.

The Footsteps of the Great Liberators

To understand the phenomenon of Oriyomi Hamzat, one must look back at the great philosophers, democrats, and liberators of history who bled for the welfare of the masses.

Like Abraham Lincoln, who endured fierce opposition and civil war to emancipate the oppressed, Hamzat is enduring political warfare to emancipate the minds and pockets of the Oyo masses.
Like Julius Caesar, who was fiercely hated by the wealthy Senate because he championed the cause of the poor Roman plebeians, Hamzat is being targeted by the political establishment because his loyalty lies with the streets, not the elite cabals.
Like the great Socialist and Democratic thinkers who argued that the wealth of a society belongs to the workers and the ordinary citizens, Hamzat’s philosophy is rooted in egalitarianism. He believes that the resources of Oyo State should not be locked in the vaults of a few, but distributed to eradicate poverty among the many.

These historical figures fought with the last drop of their blood to defend the vulnerable. Oriyomi Hamzat has demonstrated that same rare, self-sacrificial spirit.

An Urgent Call to the Conscience of the Masses

The ongoing persecution of Oriyomi Hamzat is not just an attack on his person; it is a direct attack on the hopes of the poor. The political elites are shooting arrows at him because they know that if a man who genuinely loves the poor gets into power, the era of weaponized poverty is over.

Oriyomi Hamzat does not deserve persecution; he deserves massive, unyielding support. He deserves encouragement. It is time for the poor masses, the artisans, the market women, the students, and every lover of justice in Oyo State to realize that 'this is their fight'.

He is the right man for the job because he already knows where the shoe pinches the common man. He has cried with them, fought for them, and bled for them. Now, it is time for the masses to stand up for him. We must reject the intimidation. We must silence his detractors with our numbers. We must rally behind him and vote for the man who has always voted for us in our times of distress.

When the history of Oyo State is written, let it be said that when the true liberator emerged, the masses did not abandon him to the wolves.
