Ayekooto Media

IBADAN — Tragedy struck in Ibadan as two persons reportedly lost their lives following a road accident involving a petroleum tanker in the Ibadan South-West area of Oyo State.

The accident occurred when the tanker reportedly lost control and somersaulted, leaving two people trapped in the vehicle.

Men of the Oyo State Fire Service subsequently responded to the scene and recovered the bodies of the two victims.

Reports from Nigerian media confirmed the incident, with the victims said to have died at the scene of the accident. The bodies were recovered during the rescue operation by officials of the state fire service.

The circumstances surrounding the crash, including the immediate cause of the tanker losing control, were not independently established in the reports available at the time of publication.

The latest incident once again highlights the dangers associated with heavy-duty and petroleum tankers operating on Nigerian roads, particularly in densely populated urban areas where tanker accidents can quickly result in fatalities and widespread destruction.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident, while efforts are also likely to focus on preventing further tragedies involving petroleum tankers in the metropolis.

Ayekooto Media extends its condolences to the families, friends and associates of the deceased and calls for greater vigilance and adherence to road-safety measures by tanker operators and other road users.
