SOWENON Repositions for 2027: Appoints Adesola Yaqub as New DG, Launches Official Website

ABUJA — In a highly strategic move aimed at repositioning the organization for maximum effectiveness, the leadership of the South, West, East, North of Nigeria Coordinated Initiative (SOWENON) has officially announced the appointment of renowned leadership development expert and ICT consultant, Hon. Adesola Yaqub, as its new Director General (DG). 

The announcement was made on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Abuja by the organization’s National Vice Chairman, Elder Yemi Shobajo, on behalf of the SOWENON Chairman, Dr. Sam Jenfa. 

A Vehicle for National Unity and 2027 Mobilization
SOWENON, a prominent non-governmental organization, operates with a core mandate prioritizing human capital development and the promotion of national unity. Beyond its civic duties, the organization serves as a formidable support group and a notable strategic partner in the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT).

To align with its expanding vision, SOWENON has also officially launched its newly designed website. The group noted that this digital expansion, combined with the strengthening of its national zonal coordinating structures, is designed to ensure a robust and seamless grassroots mobilization across all six geopolitical zones of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the leadership, Yaqub’s appointment is one of numerous deliberate steps taken to improve the organization's commitment to its long-term mission and political objectives. 

Profile of the New Director General
Hon. Adesola Yaqub brings to the table over two decades of robust experience as a seasoned professional, administrator, and grassroots political mobilizer. His impressive track record includes serving as a former Local Government Chairman and functioning as a trusted aide to a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State. 

A heavyweight in progressive politics, Yaqub’s recent political footprints include:
* Serving as a crucial member of the APC 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.
* Functioning as the Director General of the APC 2024 Local Governments Election Campaign Council in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
* Contesting for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2019.

Academic Pedigree and Future Mandate
Intellectually grounded, the new DG holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He is a distinguished graduate of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, as well as an alumnus of the prestigious School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG).
