OSOGBO — The battle for the soul of Osun State has officially shifted from the ballot boxes to the collation centers. As voting concludes across the 3,763 polling units in the ongoing Osun State Gubernatorial Election, early data trickling into the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing (IReV) portal reveals an incredibly tight, high-stakes race.



From all early indications, the election has crystallized into a fierce two-horse contest between the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting under the banner of the Accord Party (A), and Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Early Numbers: A Razor-Thin Margin
While INEC is yet to officially declare any Ward or Local Government, preliminary data analyzed by independent election tracking dashboards (such as ERAD) from the first batch of uploaded Form EC8A result sheets shows a razor-thin margin separating the two political heavyweights.



Based on an early fraction of processed votes (approximately 19,600 votes collated from initial uploads):
Accord Party (Adeleke): Currently holding a slight edge at ~50.9%
APC (Oyebamiji):Trailing closely at ~46.3%
ADC (Salaam): Distant third at ~1.7%

Note: The vote gap between the two leading candidates in these early batches is less than 1,000 votes, indicating that this election may go down to the wire.

LGA Battlegrounds: Where the Votes Are Coming From
As results continue to drop from the polling units, early geographical trends are beginning to form across the state's political zones:



Early Accord Party Strongholds: The incumbent governor is currently showing early dominance in polling units across Odo-Otin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, Osogbo, Ilesa East, Atakunmosa East, Ife East, and Ife North.
Early APC Pushbacks: The APC is putting up a fierce fight, showing strong early numbers from polling units arriving from Ilesa West and Atakunmosa West, signaling a brutal battle for the Ijesha axis.

High Tension, EFCC Alarms, and Heavy Security
The voting process, though largely peaceful in some areas with commendable priority given to the elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), has been overshadowed by severe political tension and heavy allegations.

Just hours into the election, the camp of Governor Adeleke raised a massive alarm, alleging a plot by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the Osun State Government's accounts to paralyze their logistics. Furthermore, the State Government accused security agencies of targeted intimidation, prompting an urgent distress call to the Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee to avert what they termed an "impending police-induced crisis."

Despite these allegations, there has been a massive deployment of security personnel across the state, acting on the strict directives of President Bola Tinubu to ensure a secure and transparent process, viewing Osun as a critical litmus test for the 2027 general elections.

What Next?
Sorting and counting at the unit levels have largely concluded, and the political actors are now focused on the Ward and Local Government collation centers.
