Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a fresh four-year mandate after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after the completion of the collation of results from the state's 30 Local Government Areas.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.



The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.

ADELEKE SECURES 19 LGAs AS APC TAKES 11

The final local-government spread underscores the competitiveness of the election.

Available reports indicate that Adeleke won 19 of Osun's 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11 LGAs.

Among the areas reported in Adeleke's column were Osogbo, Ede North, Ede South, Iwo, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa West, Oriade, Odo-Otin, Ifelodun, Ila, Aiyedire, Aiyedaade, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Orolu, Boluwaduro and Ifedayo.

The result gives Adeleke another mandate to govern Osun State after his first term in office.

A TIGHTLY CONTESTED POLITICAL BATTLE

The election was widely regarded as a major political contest between the incumbent governor and Oyebamiji, the APC challenger.

The contest attracted significant attention because of the political stakes involved and the strength of the two major camps.

As results were collated, Adeleke established a lead that he maintained through the final stages of the process.

Before the final declaration, reports from the Independent National Electoral Commission's results system and collation centres showed Adeleke ahead of Oyebamiji, with the margin fluctuating as results from different LGAs were announced.

The final figures, however, placed Adeleke decisively ahead.

OSOGBO AND OTHER KEY BATTLEGROUNDS

Osogbo, the Osun State capital, was among the LGAs won by Adeleke.

Reported figures from Osogbo showed Adeleke polling 36,480 votes, against Oyebamiji's 30,474, while ADC's Najeem Salaam recorded 1,503 votes.

The Ede axis also produced strong performances for the incumbent.

In Ede North, Adeleke reportedly secured 35,427 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 10,283. In Ede South, Adeleke recorded 26,188 votes against Oyebamiji's 6,219.

These results contributed significantly to Adeleke's eventual statewide advantage.

INEC DECLARATION

The declaration followed the completion of the collation of results from all 30 Local Government Areas.



INEC's returning officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced Adeleke as the winner after the final results were collated in Osogbo.

The declaration brings the 2026 Osun governorship contest to its decisive stage, although any candidate or political party dissatisfied with the process retains the constitutional and legal avenues available for challenging an election result.
