There is a powerful Yoruba adage that says, "Ajo o le dun dun dun, ki onile ma re'le" (No matter how sweet a foreign land is, the traveler must always remember home). In recent times, no group has embodied the profound truth of this proverb better than the Igboho Diaspora Forum. 

While the political class bickers over allocations and traditional lines are drawn over supremacy, our sons and daughters scattered across the United Kingdom, the United States, and beyond, looked back home and saw an emergency. They saw a town in desperate need of medical infrastructure, and they responded not with empty rhetoric, but with an unprecedented, unified financial intervention.

From a "Mortuary" to a Modern Hospital: The Giant Stride

For years, the Igboho General Hospital was a shadow of itself. It had decayed to the point where our people cynically, yet tragically, referred to it as a "mortuary" rather than a sanctuary of healing. 

But the Igboho in Diaspora stepped in and rewrote the narrative. Through their collective efforts and hard-earned resources, they executed a total overhaul of the facility. They completely renovated the decaying structures—replacing the roofing, executing flawless plastering, and installing solid burglary proofs to secure the premises. They did not stop at the exterior; they transformed the interior with fresh painting and, most importantly, equipped the hospital with modern medical equipment. Today, the hospital stands as a beacon of hope, capable of genuinely saving the lives of our fathers, mothers, and children.

The Triumph of Unity Over Sectional Sentiments

Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of this massive project is the sheer unity that drove it. Igboho is a great town, but we have often allowed ourselves to be divided by our historic quarters. 

 

During this monumental project, nobody asked who came from Modeke, Obaago, Bonni, Igbope, Okegboho, or Oke Afin. They dropped all sectional sentiments and local politics at the door. They remembered only one identity: 'Omo Igboho'. This rare display of absolute unity is a profound lesson for those of us at home. It proves that when we blind ourselves to our internal divisions, there is no limit to the development we can attract to Oorelope Local Government.

The Historical Mandate: Reinvigorating 'Ifelodun Omo Igboho'

While we commend the current executives—led by Prof. Kolajo (President), Dr. Odekunle (VP US), Mr. Adeolu Alao (VP UK), Mr. Tayo Bello (Secretary), Barr. Dorcas Adekunle Hordis (Assistant Secretary & Legal Advisor), and the rest of the formidable team—we must also issue a clarion call for them to do more. 

History reminds us that the apex socio-cultural organization of our town, 'Ifelodun Omo Igboho', originally took its roots from outside the shores of Nigeria. It was birthed by the visionary foresight of Igboho indigenes who had traveled out, gained exposure, and realized the need for an apolitical, unifying umbrella. 

Today, the leadership of Ifelodun Omo Igboho desperately needs the vast exposure, intellectual capacity, and global perspective of the Diaspora group. We need you to actively influence the activities and strategic direction of this socio-cultural body. Your global exposure is the compass we need to navigate the complexities of modern community development. 

       

The Next Frontier: Strategic Political Lobbying

The influence of the Igboho Diaspora Forum must now expand beyond philanthropy into strategic political engagement. 

As a highly organized and financially potent bloc, your association possesses the leverage to directly engage our political officeholders, both at the local level and the Oyo State Government level. We appeal to the Diaspora executives to use their global capacity to officially invite the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for a high-level Diaspora interaction. 

When a sitting Governor travels abroad to meet with a highly organized community association, it shifts the political dynamics. It presents an opportunity to submit a direct "Charter of Demands" for Igboho, completely bypassing the local bureaucratic bottlenecks. Your direct appeal to the state government can attract massive infrastructural projects, educational upgrades, and further healthcare investments to our town.

To the Igboho Diaspora Forum: We see your sacrifices. We recognize the funds you sent home when you could have spent them on yourselves. You have restored our pride and saved the lives of our people. 

Now, we urge you not to retreat. Step fully into the arena of our socio-cultural and political trajectory. Bring your exposure home, unite the factions, lobby the government, and let us build the Igboho of our dreams together.
