THE ORIIRE ABDUCTION SAGA: APM Backs Makinde, Exposes APC’s "Panic" Over UN Probe Demand

By Ayekooto Media News Desk

The political shockwaves surrounding the rescue of the 44 abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government continue to violently rock the nation. As the victims undergo critical medical evaluations at the 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital at Odogbo Barracks in Ibadan after 56 harrowing days in captivity, a massive partisan war over accountability has erupted.

Stepping forcefully into the fray, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has officially thrown its full political weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde’s controversial demand for an independent United Nations (UN) investigation, while launching a blistering attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

The APC’s "Desperation to Suppress the Truth"

Following Senator Oshiomhole’s explosive outburst on the Senate floor—where he accused Governor Makinde of being "unstatesmanlike" and attempting to undermine Nigeria's sovereignty—the APM released a fiery counter-statement. The opposition party questioned the underlying motives behind the APC-led Senate's swift move to gag the Oyo State Governor.

"Why is the ruling party so terrified of a transparent, international investigation?" the APM questioned in its official release. "When a state endures a 56-day terror siege, asking for global intelligence and accountability is not an attack on sovereignty; it is a demand for survival. The panic radiating from Senator Oshiomhole and the Presidency suggests a desperate attempt to suppress the truth."

The Hypocrisy of "National Sovereignty"

For weeks, the people of Oyo State lived in absolute terror while the Oriire victims languished in the forests. Governor Makinde's call for a UN-backed probe is rooted in the necessity to uncover the operational logistics, funding, and local informant networks that sustained such a massive kidnapping ring right in the heart of the South-West.

The APM rightly pointed out the blatant hypocrisy of the Senate’s stance. The Federal Government routinely partners with international bodies, accepts foreign military aid, and utilizes UN intelligence to combat insurgency in the North-East. Yet, when the Governor of Oyo State demands the same international scrutiny to prevent future tragedies in his state, it is suddenly branded a "threat to national sovereignty."

Ayekooto Media’s Stance: Accountability Above Ego

The rescue of the Oriire pupils by our gallant military is a victory that all Nigerians celebrate. However, the tragic loss of three brave soldiers during the operation is a grim reminder of the heavy cost of intelligence failures.

Commendations and minutes of silence on the Senate floor will not secure the borders of Oke-Ogun or Oriire. The children recovering at Odogbo Barracks deserve more than political grandstanding—they deserve the absolute truth.

The APM’s bold defense of Governor Makinde aligns perfectly with the desires of the Oyo State grassroots. The truth has no political party, and the safety of our children must never be sacrificed on the altar of Abuja's partisan ego. We reiterate our support for a comprehensive, UN-backed investigation into the Oriire abductions.

Let the truth be told, no matter whose political empire it threatens.
