Oriire Abductions: FG Arraigns Terrorists as Gov. Makinde Demands UN Probe Over "Suspicious Timing"

Following a grueling 56 days in captivity, the nightmare for the abducted schoolchildren and teachers of Oriire Local Government Area has officially transitioned from the forests to the courtroom. 


The Federal Government on Friday arraigned three prime suspects—Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani—before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The trio faces a stringent 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment, and illegal mining under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. According to security dossiers, the suspects belong to a proscribed terrorist affiliate group that orchestrated the abductions between January and May 2026.


However, the rescue and subsequent arraignment have sparked a fierce political storm in Agodi. 


Governor Seyi Makinde is not letting the incident slide as a mere security breach. Pointing out the highly suspicious sequence of events, Makinde has aggressively demanded an independent United Nations probe into the mass abduction. 


Addressing political stakeholders recently, the Governor raised a chilling timeline: *"For seven years, we didn’t witness anything like this in Oyo State. I declared to run for the presidency of Nigeria at 4:00 a.m., and by 9:00 a.m. the following morning, the children were abducted." As the suspects await their fate in federal custody, Ayekooto Media will continue to monitor whether the Presidency and international bodies will heed Makinde’s call to investigate the dark political undertones of the Oriire tragedy.
