BREAKING: Appeal Court Restrains INEC From Recognizing David Mark-Led ADC Congresses

ABUJA, NIGERIA— In a major judicial pronouncement, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has officially affirmed the lower court's judgment restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing or participating in any state congresses organized by the David Mark-led leadership faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a split decision of two-to-one delivered on Monday, the appellate court upheld the earlier ruling delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja on April 29, 2026.

The ruling serves as a significant blow to the Mark-led faction, legally tying the hands of the electoral umpire from validating any leadership structures or congresses produced under their watch. This development is expected to heavily impact the internal political dynamics of the ADC as the legal and political battles for the soul of the party continue.
