₦1.3B PFIPC Scandal: Police Arrest Adeniyi Adeyemi in Osun Following Court Bench Warrant
By Ayekooto Media News Desk
OSOGBO— Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the highly controversial and legally non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The arrest, which took place in Osun State on Tuesday, was officially confirmed by the Osun State Police Command Spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi.
Adeyemi’s apprehension follows a bench warrant issued earlier on Tuesday by Justice Muhammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The judge ordered the arrest after Adeyemi repeatedly failed to honour court summons. During the hearing, Adeyemi’s own legal counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that all efforts to persuade his client to attend the judicial proceedings had proved abortive.
Justice Umar noted that an eight-count charge had been filed against Adeyemi since November 27, 2025, with proceedings officially commencing on December 4, 2025. Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, the judge adjourned the case to September 30, 2026.
The PFIPC Controversy: A Fictitious Agency with a Real Budget
Adeyemi’s legal troubles stem from what is fast becoming one of the most bizarre political scandals of the year. In November 2025, the police charged Adeyemi alongside two other suspects, simply identified as 'Femi' and 'Anu,' with forgery and impersonation. The trio is accused of forging official presidential letterhead papers to legitimize their operations.
The situation escalated to national prominence in June when the Presidency publicly disowned the PFIPC, describing it as a completely fictitious organization. Shockingly, despite lacking any legal framework, legislative backing, or presidential declaration, the PFIPC operated smoothly as a fully functioning government agency. The phantom council even managed to secure a staggering ₦1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 federal budget, occupied physical office space at the Federal Secretariat, and actively recruited staff.
Explosive Allegations and Presidential Directives
As the net closed in, Adeyemi fired back with heavy allegations, claiming that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, collected ₦400 million through a proxy to facilitate the issuance of his appointment letter into the fictitious agency.
In response to the monumental embarrassment and the gravity of the allegations, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the entire PFIPC scandal.
Just a day before his arrest, Adeyemi had publicly appealed to President Tinubu to bypass existing structures and constitute an independent, multi-stakeholder investigative panel to probe the mystery surrounding the council and its ₦1.3 billion budget allocation.
With Adeyemi now in police custody, Nigerians eagerly await his appearance in court to answer to the allegations of forgery and to shed light on how a non-existent agency infiltrated the federal budget.
