Nigeria–Taiwan collaboration takes centre stage as HyCuTIPI delegation joins global agrifood technology stakeholders in Taipei

TAIPEI, TAIWAN — September 8, 2026:
Nigeria’s growing engagement with Taiwan in the areas of smart agriculture, agricultural technology, innovation, trade and investment received a significant boost on Tuesday as a high-level Nigerian delegation associated with the Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative (HyCuTIPI) participated in the opening ceremony of the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek Exhibition at TaiNEX Hall 1, Taipei.

The exhibition, which runs from September 8 to 10, 2026, brings together businesses, technology providers, agricultural experts, investors, researchers and policymakers around emerging solutions for agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, food processing, cold-chain management, green energy and sustainable agribusiness. Official exhibition information lists 400 exhibitors, 770 booths and 24 forums, underscoring the scale of the international gathering.

The Nigerian delegation's presence is particularly significant against the background of HyCuTIPI's continuing efforts to deepen practical Nigeria–Taiwan cooperation and create channels through which advanced Taiwanese technologies, investment opportunities and technical expertise can be connected with Nigeria's vast agricultural and industrial potential.

The composition of the delegation reflects the multidisciplinary character of HyCuTIPI, bringing together academia, law, diplomacy, agriculture, technology, investment and institutional leadership.

HYCuTIPI'S TAIWAN CONNECTION

HyCuTIPI's participation in the Taipei exhibition is not an isolated engagement.

The organisation has been building a framework for sustained Nigeria–Taiwan cooperation in technology, agriculture, trade and investment. In September 2025, HyCuTIPI and My Exhibition Company Limited of Taiwan entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting and facilitating investment between Nigeria, Taiwan and other Asian markets. The areas identified for cooperation included agriculture and agro-processing, livestock and poultry, animal feed and drugs, hatcheries, greenhouse equipment, post-harvest storage and preservation, aquaculture, engineering, renewable energy, trade missions, exhibitions, B2B meetings and investment forums.

That earlier understanding makes the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek engagement particularly noteworthy.

The exhibition provides an opportunity for Nigerian stakeholders to move beyond discussions about technology and explore practical pathways for technology transfer, investment partnerships, agricultural mechanisation, smart farming, post-harvest management, food processing, aquaculture and sustainable agricultural production.

FROM SMART FARMING TO SMART FOOD SYSTEMS

The Taiwan Smart Agriweek platform itself is structured around several interconnected areas of modern agriculture.

These include AGRITECH TAIWAN, focused on AI-enabled precision agriculture; AGRILIVESTOCK & FEED TAIWAN, addressing smart barns and precision feeding; AQUATECH TAIWAN, dedicated to smart aquaculture; AGRIFRESH TAIWAN, focusing on smart cold-chain systems; AGRIGREEN TAIWAN, centred on green energy and carbon reduction; and AGRIFOOD TAIWAN, which focuses on food processing, traceability and value addition.

For Nigeria, where agricultural productivity, food security, post-harvest losses, livestock development, aquaculture, agro-processing and access to modern technology remain important development priorities, the technologies showcased in Taipei have potentially significant applications.

The exhibition also features a Global Agrifood Innovation Championship, while the programme includes forums dealing with smart agriculture, net-zero technology, green innovation, precision nitrogen conversion and agricultural engineering.

ACADEMIA AND AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION

The presence of two Nigerian university vice chancellors in the delegation adds an important academic dimension to the engagement.

Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, is a Professor of Soil Science whose academic work includes soil fertility, land management and agricultural sustainability. His profile on the HyCuTIPI platform highlights his experience in agricultural research, sustainable land use, food security and university leadership.

Also participating is Professor Olaniyi Jacob Babayemi, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, bringing extensive experience in animal science, livestock production and agricultural research to the Nigerian delegation.

Their participation creates an opportunity for conversations around the intersection of research, technology, university-industry collaboration and agricultural commercialisation.

For Nigerian universities, exposure to Taiwan's technology ecosystem could also open new possibilities for research partnerships, student and faculty exchanges, joint innovation projects, technology incubation and the adaptation of smart agricultural solutions to Nigerian conditions.

SENATOR NDOMA-EGBA'S PRESENCE ADDS INSTITUTIONAL WEIGHT

The participation of Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, OON, CON, SAN, Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti and a Trustee of HyCuTIPI, further strengthens the institutional character of the delegation.

His presence alongside university leadership, trade officials, technology stakeholders and HyCuTIPI's Board leadership reflects the organisation's stated emphasis on connecting institutions, expertise and investment opportunities in pursuit of practical development outcomes.

HYCuTIPI'S BROADER VISION

HyCuTIPI — the Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative — was registered with Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission in February 2025, according to reporting on its establishment and objectives. Its broad mission includes complementing government efforts to promote technology and innovation for inclusive growth and mutual prosperity, while encouraging the deployment of advanced technology across agriculture, mining, education, healthcare, infrastructure, hospitality, culture, tourism, finance, energy, ICT, transportation and other sectors.

Its leadership has also assembled professionals with experience spanning diplomacy, engineering, agriculture, law, international trade, academia and business.

Among them is Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon, President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, whose professional background includes engineering, international trade, agricultural commodities and business operations between Taiwan and Nigeria. His HyCuTIPI profile notes his experience in importing Nigerian agricultural commodities into Asia and his involvement in agricultural enterprises covering commodities including cashew, soybeans, sesame, rice, shea butter and maize.

HyCuTIPI's Legal Adviser, Barrister Peter Kayode Abodunrin, also brings more than two decades of legal practice and experience in corporate, commercial and contractual matters to the initiative.

A PLATFORM FOR NIGERIA–TAIWAN ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY

The significance of the Nigerian delegation's presence in Taipei therefore extends beyond attendance at an exhibition.

At a time when Nigeria is seeking new pathways for agricultural transformation, food security, industrialisation and technology-driven economic development, Taiwan offers an important reference point for examining how technology, research, manufacturing and agricultural enterprise can be integrated.

For HyCuTIPI, the objective appears to be translating international exposure into concrete partnerships, investment opportunities, technology adoption and institutional cooperation that can ultimately produce measurable benefits in Nigeria.

The organisation's earlier agreement with My Exhibition Company specifically contemplated the organisation of trade missions, roadshows, exhibitions, B2B meetings and investment forums in both Taiwan and Nigeria, as well as cooperation across agricultural value chains and other strategic sectors.

The 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek engagement consequently represents an important continuation of that trajectory.

TAIPEI BECOMES A MEETING POINT FOR AGRICULTURE, TECHNOLOGY AND INVESTMENT

The official TaiNEX schedule confirms that Taiwan Smart Agriweek is being held at TaiNEX 1 from September 8 to 10, 2026.

The opening day also features the Taiwan Smart Agriweek Exhibition Open Ceremony, alongside technical and innovation-focused sessions.

For the Nigerian delegation, the three-day programme provides a valuable window to engage technology companies, agricultural innovators, investors, researchers and industry associations from Taiwan and other participating markets.

The ultimate test, however, will be what emerges after the exhibition: new partnerships, technology transfer, investment commitments, institutional collaborations and practical projects capable of moving from conference rooms and exhibition stands to farms, universities, processing centres and businesses in Nigeria.

As HyCuTIPI continues to position itself as a bridge between Nigerian institutions and international technology and investment ecosystems, its participation in Taiwan Smart Agriweek 2026 marks another step in that direction.

The message from Taipei is therefore clear: Nigeria's agricultural future must increasingly be connected to technology, innovation, investment and global partnerships — and HyCuTIPI is seeking to place Nigeria firmly within that conversation.
