HYCuTIPI, Kun Shan University Forge New Nigeria–Taiwan Partnership on Green Energy, Innovation, Higher Education
TAINAN, TAIWAN — The growing Nigeria–Taiwan relationship in education, technology, innovation and sustainable development received another significant boost on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as the Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative (HyCuTIPI) led a Nigerian delegation on a strategic visit to Kun Shan University in Tainan City, Taiwan.
The visit, led by Ambassador David A. Adejuwon, President of HyCuTIPI, provided another important platform for discussions on how Nigerian tertiary institutions can establish practical and sustainable partnerships with Taiwanese universities and technology-driven institutions.
The Nigeria Delegation that visited the University and made significant contributions during the high level discussions include Amb David A Adejuwon, President, HyCuTIPI; Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti and a very active Trustee of HyCuTIPI; Engr Damisayo Abiodun Adejuwon, a Trustee of HyCuTIPI and Emily Chen, HyCuTIPI Resource Person in Taiwan.
Members of the Kun Shan University Governing Council and Management Staff that joined the President to receive the Nigeria Delegation are Shuab-Shyurng Hou, Ph,D, Dean of Research & Development Department/ CEO Green Energy Technology Research Center, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Charles H.Y Chen, Associate Professor/ Dean, Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, Department of Visual Communication Design; Ching-Han Yeh (Tiffany), Chief, International Exchange Division, Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs; Channing Chuang, Ph.D of Art and Science, New York University, Department of Graduate School of Electronic Engineering
A major highlight of the visit was the delegation's tour of the Electric Car/Green Energy Research and Development Center within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kun Shan University.
The centre, jointly established by the university and Panasonic Industries, offered the Nigerian delegation an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into research and development activities around electric mobility, green energy and emerging technologies.
The visit further underscored the growing relevance of technology transfer, university-industry collaboration and practical research in addressing contemporary development challenges.
At the university, Ambassador Adejuwon held discussions with Dr. Lee, Les Tien-Shan, President and Chair Professor of Kun Shan University, alongside the Vice President and other members of the university's management team.
The discussions focused extensively on developing a robust framework of cooperation between Kun Shan University and Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.
Areas identified for possible collaboration included education, engineering, science and technology, research and development, innovation, capacity building, smart agriculture, biotechnology, manufacturing, entrepreneurship and industry–university partnerships.
The engagement also explored possibilities for moving beyond conventional academic exchanges towards practical programmes capable of producing measurable outcomes for institutions and communities in both countries.
According to HyCuTIPI, potential areas of cooperation could include student and faculty exchanges, joint research, technology transfer, professional and technical training, innovation development and stronger connections between universities and the private sector.
The initiative said the warm reception and openness demonstrated by the leadership of Kun Shan University provided encouragement for deeper institutional engagement between Nigerian and Taiwanese stakeholders.
From Dialogue to Implementation
For HyCuTIPI, the essence of the Taiwan mission goes beyond courtesy visits.
The organisation is seeking to build sustainable bridges through which knowledge, technology, expertise and institutional resources can be exchanged between Nigeria and Taiwan.
Ambassador Adejuwon expressed appreciation to the President, Vice President and management of Kun Shan University for the reception accorded the Nigerian delegation, while stressing the importance of converting the outcomes of discussions into concrete programmes.
He said HyCuTIPI was prepared to facilitate further engagements involving Nigerian tertiary institutions, research organisations, private-sector players and their Taiwanese counterparts.
The proposed areas of cooperation, according to the initiative, could eventually translate into joint research projects, institutional partnerships, capacity-building programmes, technology-transfer opportunities and sustainable development projects.
A Proposed West African Higher Education Conference
In what could become one of the major follow-up initiatives from the Taiwan engagement, HyCuTIPI also proposed, subject to consultations and necessary approvals, a two- or three-day international conference in the third quarter of 2027 focusing on the management, leadership and governance of higher education in the 21st century.
The proposed conference is expected to be organised in collaboration with Kun Shan University and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, with the Association of West Africa Universities and Vice-Chancellors of West African universities envisaged among the participants.
The exact dates, venue, format and participation are expected to be discussed following consultations with the universities, relevant Taiwanese authorities and prospective resource persons.
If realised, the proposed conference would provide another avenue for higher-education leaders from West Africa and Taiwan to exchange ideas on institutional leadership, innovation, technology adoption, research, internationalisation and sustainable university development.
Building a Knowledge and Technology Bridge
The Kun Shan University visit represents another chapter in HyCuTIPI's ongoing Taiwan engagement, which has featured meetings with universities, technology institutions and other stakeholders.
The initiative's broader objective is to leverage international technology and innovation partnerships for sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria.
For the Nigerian delegation, the emerging relationship with Kun Shan University presents opportunities for Nigerian tertiary institutions to connect with international expertise in areas ranging from engineering and green technology to research, entrepreneurship and industry collaboration.
HyCuTIPI said it would continue working towards bringing the relevant Nigerian and Taiwanese stakeholders together to advance the emerging partnership.
The initiative described the desired relationship as one founded on knowledge exchange, innovation, technology, research, capacity building and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The ultimate ambition, it said, is to establish a long-term and practical Nigeria–Taiwan partnership in education, technology and innovation, with Kun Shan University playing an important role in the emerging institutional bridge.
With the Nigerian delegation's visit to the Electric Car/Green Energy Research and Development Center adding a practical dimension to the discussions, the engagement at Kun Shan University demonstrated how academic diplomacy can potentially move from meetings and memoranda to exposure, knowledge exchange and practical cooperation.
From appreciation to collaboration, and from collaboration to partnership, the HyCuTIPI mission continues to open another window for Nigeria to connect with Taiwan's knowledge, technology and innovation ecosystem.
