PINTUNG, TAIWAN — September 11, 2026:
The growing partnership between Nigeria and Taiwan in the areas of agriculture, technology, education and innovation received another boost on Friday, September 11, 2026, as a high-powered Nigerian delegation led by the Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative (HyCuTIPI) visited the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) in Pingtung, Taiwan.

The visit formed part of the Nigerian delegation's engagements in Taiwan during the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek, with discussions centred on opportunities for knowledge exchange, institutional partnerships, agricultural innovation, technology transfer and capacity building.

At the centre of the engagement was Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon, President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HyCuTIPI, who led the Nigerian team to the university for high-level discussions with members of the institution's academic and international affairs leadership.

The delegation was received by Professor Kun-Yu Liu, Dean, Office of International Affairs, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, alongside other senior academics and officials of the university.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to examine areas where the technological and research capabilities of a leading Taiwanese institution could be connected with Nigeria's vast agricultural potential and the development objectives of Nigerian universities and institutions.

Among the Nigerian delegates were Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti and Trustee of HyCuTIPI; Professor Olaniyi Jacob Babayemi, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho; Barrister Peter Kayode Abodunrin, Principal Partner, Omega Reigns Chambers and Legal Adviser to HyCuTIPI; and Engineer Damisayo Abiodun Adejuwon, Chief Executive Officer of Ohly Global Company, Taiwan and a Trustee of HyCuTIPI.

The Taiwanese delegation included Professor Min-Chien Chu, Director, Strategic Development Division, Office of International Affairs; Dr. Shao-Yu Peng, Professor and Chair, Department of Animal Science; Dr. Wen-Hua Chen, Professor, Department of Plant Medicine; Professor Chun-Yi Lee, Director, Education Division, Office of International Affairs; Dr. Tzung-Meng Wu, Professor, Department of Aquaculture; as well as protocol and international affairs officials including Ms Sherry Chien, Ms Alice Tseng and Ms Xiuying Long.

Agriculture, Education and Technology Take Centre Stage

The presence of academics from Animal Science, Plant Medicine and Aquaculture departments underscored the broad agricultural and technological relevance of the engagement.

For Nigeria, where agriculture remains a critical component of economic diversification, food security, employment creation and rural development, exposure to Taiwan's application of technology, research and innovation in modern agriculture could provide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

HyCuTIPI's participation in the engagement also reflects the organisation's stated vision of leveraging the global technology and innovation wave for sustainable economic growth and development.

The initiative has continued to position international partnerships as an important avenue through which Nigerian universities, entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders can gain access to knowledge, expertise and innovative approaches capable of addressing local development challenges.

The visit to NPUST therefore represents more than a ceremonial academic engagement. It provides a platform for exploring practical relationships between Nigerian institutions and Taiwanese expertise in areas capable of strengthening agricultural productivity and human capital development.

Universities as Engines of Nigeria–Taiwan Cooperation

The participation of the Vice Chancellors of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti and the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho added significant institutional weight to the discussions.

Their presence reflects the growing recognition that universities must play a central role in building sustainable international partnerships, particularly in research, agricultural technology, student and staff exchange, innovation and practical skills development.

Such collaborations could potentially open new pathways for Nigerian academics and students to interact with Taiwanese institutions, while also creating opportunities for research partnerships and technology-driven agricultural development.

For Oke-Ogun in particular, the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, at an institution renowned for science, technology and agricultural education provides an important opportunity to explore partnerships that could translate advanced knowledge into practical benefits for the region and Nigeria at large.

HyCuTIPI's Taiwan Mission

The Pingtung visit is part of a broader Taiwan mission by HyCuTIPI and its partners, following the Nigerian delegation's arrival in Taipei on September 7 and participation in the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek Exhibition at TAINEX Hall 1 on September 8.

The delegation's engagements have focused on identifying opportunities through which Taiwan's experience in smart agriculture, technology, innovation and industrial development can contribute to Nigeria's economic transformation.

The latest visit further demonstrates HyCuTIPI's determination to move beyond dialogue and establish meaningful bridges between Nigerian institutions and international technology and innovation ecosystems.

As Nigeria continues to seek practical solutions to challenges in food production, agricultural mechanisation, education, youth employment and technology-driven development, engagements of this nature could become increasingly important.

A Bridge for Knowledge and Innovation

The meeting between the Nigerian delegation and the leadership of National Pingtung University of Science and Technology ultimately highlighted the possibilities that exist when academic institutions, technology stakeholders and development-focused organisations work across borders.

For HyCuTIPI, the objective is clear: to connect Nigeria with global knowledge, technology and innovation opportunities and translate such engagements into sustainable development outcomes.

The September 11 visit to Pingtung may therefore mark another significant step in the emerging Nigeria–Taiwan partnership, with the potential to produce long-term collaborations in agriculture, education, research, technology transfer, innovation and human-capital development.

HyCuTIPI's Pingtung engagement reinforces the initiative's commitment to building international bridges through which technology, knowledge and innovation can be harnessed for Nigeria's sustainable development.
