Meet the New Principal Officers Steering the Affairs of The Polytechnic, Ibadan

Following the historic move by Governor Seyi Makinde to break the 21-year jinx of "acting" leadership at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, a new era of substantive principal officers has officially begun. The newly appointed technocrats and administrators are tasked with charting a five-year developmental roadmap for the premier institution.

But who exactly are the individuals entrusted with this massive responsibility? Here is a closer look at the academic and professional profiles of the new principal officers of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

1. Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen a native of Ibadan – The Substantive Rector
Dr. Lasisi’s appointment as the Substantive Rector is largely viewed by the academic community as a well-deserved "homecoming." Before this substantive appointment, he had been steering the ship of the institution as the Acting Rector since March 2024, when he succeeded Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi.
 


Academic and Professional Background:
Dr. Lasisi is not a stranger to the inner workings of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He spent the better part of his illustrious academic career within the walls of the institution, rising through the ranks by sheer dint of hard work to the highest academic position of Chief Lecturer.

During his previous years at the institution, he proved his administrative mettle by serving in highly sensitive capacities, including:
Dean of Student Affairs: Where he managed student welfarism and maintained peace on campus.
Director of Academic Planning and Control Unit: Where he was responsible for curriculum development and accreditation standards. 

Before his return to the polytechnic as Acting Rector in early 2024, Dr. Lasisi briefly crossed over to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, further expanding his administrative exposure in the university system. Known for his strict adherence to academic excellence and infrastructural development, Dr. Lasisi is expected to drive a massive modernization agenda for the polytechnic.

2. Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat – The Registrar
As the newly appointed Substantive Registrar, Dr. Olajide assumes the critical role of the Chief Administrative Officer of the institution. 



The Registrar is the engine room of the polytechnic's administration, responsible for keeping statutory records, managing the welfare of both academic and non-academic staff, and serving as the Secretary to the Governing Council and the Academic Board. Dr. Olajide’s elevation to this substantive role brings an end to decades of administrative uncertainty in the Registry department, paving the way for definitive, long-term policy implementations and improved staff relations.

3. Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole – The Bursar
Mr. Adegbola steps into the role of the Substantive Bursar, taking charge as the Chief Financial Officer of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. 
 


With the polytechnic needing strategic financial management to fund its infrastructural and academic upgrades, Mr. Adegbola’s mandate is clear: to optimize internal revenue generation, ensure transparent financial reporting, and manage the institution's budget in alignment with Governor Makinde’s educational roadmap. His substantive appointment ensures that the polytechnic can confidently engage in long-term financial planning and partnerships.

4. Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola – The Librarian
In the 21st-century academic environment, the library is the heart of research and innovation. Mr. Osunrinade takes the helm as the Substantive Librarian of the institution. 
 
 

His primary responsibility over the next five years will be the total modernization of the polytechnic’s library system. Stakeholders expect his tenure to prioritize the digitization of archives, the expansion of e-library facilities, and ensuring that students and lecturers have access to global academic journals and contemporary research materials.

A New Dawn for The Polytechnic
Together, these four principal officers—screened rigorously by the Professor Lanre Nassar-led Governing Council—have the mandate to restore The Polytechnic, Ibadan to its pristine glory as Nigeria's leading center for technical and vocational education.
