JINX BROKEN: Makinde Appoints Substantive Rector and Principal Officers for The Polytechnic Ibadan After 21 Years

In a historic educational milestone for Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has officially approved the appointment of substantive principal officers for The Polytechnic, Ibadan. This decisive executive action officially ends a prolonged 21-year era where the prestigious institution operated under the shadows of acting leadership.

Since 2005, the highest administrative seats at the polytechnic have been occupied in an acting capacity. Today, however, a new dawn has arrived for the academic community.

Meet the New Principal Officers
Following a rigorous and transparent selection process involving public advertisements and intense screening by the institution's Governing Council, the Oyo State Government formally announced the new leadership framework. The appointments, which took effect on July 31, 2026, include:

The Substantive Rector: Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen 
The Registrar: Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat
The Bursar: Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole 
The Librarian: Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola

Each of the newly appointed principal officers is expected to serve a single, consolidated five-year tenure.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, commended the meticulous nature of the selection process. 

According to the Commissioner, the Governing Council, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar, strictly adhered to established guidelines governing state-owned tertiary institutions. Candidates underwent thorough vetting to ensure that only the most intellectually and administratively capable individuals were chosen to steer the affairs of the polytechnic.
