In what appears to be a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, held a high-profile strategic meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday. 

The meeting, which took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, also had in attendance two prominent former governors: Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

Confirming the high-stakes visit via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Governor Makinde shared photographs of the leaders and disclosed that their dialogue was heavily centered on the trajectory of the nation as the next electoral cycle approaches. 

"Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in Abeokuta," Makinde wrote. "Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election." 

The Oyo State Governor further expressed his gratitude for the former president's guidance, stating, "We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation's history."

Cross-Party Alliances and Presidential Ambitions
Political analysts are already interpreting this gathering as a strong signal of potential cross-party alliances. While Governor Makinde and Prince Oyinlola are chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kayode Fayemi remains a prominent figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). 

This high-level consultation comes amid growing political permutations for the 2027 elections, gaining even more momentum since Governor Makinde formally declared his presidential ambition in May.
