Welcome to the inaugural edition of "Oyo State: Know Your Governors," a dedicated political column by Ayekooto Media designed to X-ray the qualifications, pedigrees, and administrative achievements of the candidates vying for the highest seat at the Agodi Government House. We launch this series with the flagbearer of the Action Alliance (AA)—Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo. A proud son of Igboho, Oorelope Local Governent.
To understand Comrade Titilola-Sodo is to study a masterclass in both vertical and horizontal career growth. In a political landscape often dominated by single-issue politicians, Titilola-Sodo stands out as a multifaceted administrator: a man who can plow a field as a farmer, balance a ledger as an accountant, manage corporate structures as an administrator, and argue a brief as a lawyer.
Widely regarded as the "Grand Architect of the Labor Room," he represents a rare bridge between the Government House and the Labor Office, proving that institutional governance and workers' advocacy can coexist when a leader's philosophy is anchored in justice.

The Academic Prodigy: The Legend of '79
Long before he became a household name in public administration, Titilola-Sodo was already shattering intellectual boundaries. His academic journey began at Agbeni Methodist and progressed to Irepo Grammar School in his hometown of Igboho, where he set a record that remains a gold standard to this day.
In 1979, he graduated from Irepo Grammar School with an astonishing Aggregate 13 (Grade One), sweeping distinctions across both the Sciences and the Arts, including English, Mathematics, Physics, and Government. This rare equilibrium of logical precision and linguistic mastery earned him the reputation of a "Total Man" among his peers and educators.
His thirst for knowledge took him across Nigeria’s premier tertiary portals. He holds degrees and certifications from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the prestigious Obafermi Awolowo University (Great Ife), Lead City University, and ultimately the Nigerian Law School, equipping him with a formidable arsenal spanning agriculture, accounting, and jurisprudence.
The Civil Service Titan: A Rise Rooted in Integrity
Titilola-Sodo’s public service career is a testament to the rewards of bureaucratic discipline. He entered the Oyo State Civil Service from the grassroots, initially utilizing his diverse background as an Agricultural Officer. Recognizing his analytical capacity, the state transitioned him into financial administration, where he managed public accounts with an iron clad discipline.
Rising steadily through the ranks through sheer merit and productivity, he shattered the administrative glass ceiling to achieve the highest bureaucratic rank possible: Permanent Secretary. His tenure in the permanent chair was defined by structural efficiency, meticulous file management, and strict adherence to institutional accountability.
The Lion of the Labor Front: Guarding the Workers
What makes Titilola-Sodo’s profile uniquely compelling is his dual identity as both a high-ranking government official and a fierce defender of the masses. While he governed state files by day, he guarded workers' rights by night.
He rose to become the State President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), transforming the union into a shield against executive excesses. His leadership capacity was further recognized when he was elected Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State. In this role, he stood firmly in the breach, negotiating better conditions for workers without compromising his professional integrity. Today, he continues to bridge this gap, serving as a Special Adviser to the Governor, ensuring that labor interests retain a strategic seat at the policy table.
Family and Legacy
Beyond the boardrooms and political podiums, Titilola-Sodo’s commitment to excellence is reflected in his home. Celebrating over six decades of purposeful living, his legacy is firmly secured in his children—a family that boasts two practicing lawyers and an engineer, all actively contributing to national development.
Ayekooto Editorial Insight
As the political drumbeats for the Oyo State gubernatorial race grow louder, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo steps into the arena not with hollow rhetoric, but with an unassailable resume forged in the fires of academic excellence, financial administration, and grassroots advocacy. By fielding a seasoned bureaucrat who understands the inner workings of the civil service and the core anxieties of the working class, the Action Alliance (AA) has introduced a highly competitive, intellectually formidable titan into the Agodi race.
Voters looking for institutional stability and structural reform will undoubtedly find his pedigree tough to overlook.
