OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE — The atmosphere at the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), is currently draped in solemn reflection and deep reverence as the academic community gathers for the lying-in-state of the late educational colossus, Professor Thomas Olusola Fasokun.

The ongoing ceremony has drawn a massive convergence of academic titans, university administrators, and grieving students who have come to honor the 81-year-old pioneer of Adult and Lifelong Learning.

Leading the procession of dignitaries to pay their last respects is the Vice-Chancellor of the University, who joined other principal officers to honor a man who dedicated his life to the advancement of Great Ife.

Also standing visibly among the mourners is the highly revered Emeritus Professor Dibu Ojerinde, OON, former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). His presence at the Faculty today speaks volumes, serving as a powerful testament to the monumental weight and national significance of the late Professor Fasokun's contributions to Nigeria's educational sector.

The casket, resting with academic dignity at the very heart of the Faculty where Baba Fasokun spent decades molding minds, has become a focal point of emotional tributes. Colleagues, alumni, and mentees are currently taking turns filing past, bidding a final farewell to a scholar who was universally loved for his open-door policy, deep intellectual humility, and fatherly guidance.

As the rites of passage continue today in Ile-Ife, Ayekooto Media remains on the ground to capture this historic transition. We join the Fasokun family of Ilesa, the Osun State government, and the global network of OAU alumni in celebrating the transition of a true academic Iroko tree.

May his gentle soul find eternal rest.
